About the Atelier Chus

Atelier Chus is a ceramics and craft studio run by Ourania Vagia, based in a summerhouse nestled behind an old barn in Seon, Switzerland.

Before working with clay, I spent many years as a computer engineer. Seeking a practice rooted in touch rather than screens, I discovered ceramics at a workshop in Zurich and was immediately drawn to the medium. Following courses, dedicated self-study, and an initial setup with a small second-hand kiln, I transitioned in 2026 to ceramics full-time, building a professional studio.

Working primarily on the wheel, I make functional and decorative stoneware objects designed for daily rituals. The forms are simple and tactile, allowing the subtle marks of the hand and the natural variations of the firing process to remain visible.

The name Chus stems from the ancient Greek word χοῦς, meaning soil or earth. It also echoes Huus—“house” in Swiss German—reflecting a way of working that is deeply integrated with home, family life, and slow living. My practice draws inspiration from ceramic traditions across Switzerland, Greece, England, and Japan, focusing on utility, quiet beauty, and connection to raw materials.

The best way to follow the life at the workshop is through Instagram: @atelier_chus . If you’d like to discuss a commission or a workshop, please use the Contact page.
